Everyone is invited to celebrate with the College of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR) its 102nd Year of Foundation.  The event will be held from April 25 (Wednesday) to 27 (Friday) with theme Paggugubat: Responsibilidad at Hamon sa Makabagong Panahon Tungo sa Likas-kayang Pag-unlad.

Professor and UP Scientist III, Dr. Juan M. Pulhin, was appointed as dean of the UPLB College of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR) effective January 26, 2012 to January 25, 2015. His appointment was approved by the UP Board of Regents (BOR) during its 127^th meeting held on 26 January 2012.

 “I thank all those who gave their full support. I always believed in challenging myself and in setting new standards to surpass. I enjoin everybody to pursue distinctive excellence in all endeavors, individually as a personal goal and collectively, for the good of the College,” says Dr. Pulhin in his inspirational message during CFNR’s monthly flag ceremony held on February 6 in front of the CFNR Administration building.

In the next three years, Dr. Pulhin hopes to steer the constituents to be an active institutional player towards raising the academic ranking of UP to be among the world’s best. He intends to pursue this goal through a five-point strategy:

1. Advancing distinctive excellence in forests and natural resources education;
2. Developing world-class research and development capacity;
3. Instituting responsive extension services for community and national development;
4. Promoting enabling environment through good governance and effective support system; and
5. Generating resources for productivity

Dr. Pulhin is a Professor 8 at the Department of Social Forestry and Forest Governance and has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Tokyo for two times. He has more than 29 years of experience in natural resources education, research, and development at the national and international level and has produced more than 50 technical publications on various aspects of community-based forest management, forest governance, forest rehabilitation, tenure reform, forestry education, and climate change. He has been engaged in at least 35 research and development (R&D) projects throughout his career and his works have been recognized locally and abroad, making him one of the leading and respected experts on climate change. He is also a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)--a scientific intergovernmental body tasked to assess significant literature produced worldwide relevant to understanding the risk of human-induced climate change.

Despite his seemingly endless commitments and work demands as professor, researcher, and administrator, Dr. Pulhin remains calm and composed. A firm believer in giving quality time to important things, he continues to work with equal fervor and dedication as he leads the College on its continued quest to be a world-class leader in the education, science and responsible management or tropical forests, natural resources, and the environment.

This year we are going to celebrate the 102nd Founding Anniversary of the CFNR and Alumni Homecoming on the 25th to 27th of April with the theme “Paggugubat: Responsibilidad at Hamon sa Makabagong Panahon Tungo sa Likas-kayang Pag-unlad.”  

The three-day celebration will include important activities such as Saliksik-Hayagan (a seminar), Welcome Reception, Foresters’ Day, Legend’s Forum, Alumni Fun Games, and Alumni Night hosted by the silver jubilarians. The highlight of the said celebration is the Grand Alumni Homecoming scheduled on the third day (April 27), in which part of the program is the giving of awards for the most outstanding alumni and acknowledging the jubilarians.

This year’s UPLB-CFNRAA Homecoming will be held at the CFNR campus on April 25 to 27, 2012 with the theme “Paggugubat: Responsibilidad at Hamon sa Makabagong Panahon Tungo sa Likas-kayang Pag-unlad".
 
Expected to take the lead in the “three days and two nights” celebration will be the members of Batch ’87 who will be Silver Jubilarians.
 
Through the overall chairmanship of the CFNR Associate Dean in the 2012 Alumni Homecoming, celebrating classes (Golden, Silver and Ruby) will be recognized.
 
DENR Secretary Ramon Paje and other guests, including presidents of the Society of Filipino Foresters in the regions, are expected to grace the occasion.
 
Different committees with their corresponding Chairs have been designated to effectively organize the much awaited celebration. For alumni to get more glimpse of this upcoming event, an official website of the CFNR alumni will be launched.
